The third generation WWE wrestler talks about taking over the franchise. A couple WWE superstars were on hand at the San Diego Comic-Con a few weeks back and in the midst of the crowded chaos, IGN had a chance to talk to Ted DiBiase about his role in the upcoming DVD/Blu-Ray release of The Marine 2.
While it’s not a true sequel to the John Cena starring original, The Marine 2 is a “carrying on” of the central theme from the first movie: an ultimate badass fighting machine must use his warrior skills to take out bad guys and save his girl.
IGN: You’ve taken over The Marine franchise from John Cena. Can you tell us a little bit about who you play?
Ted DiBiase: Sure. I play a character named Joe Lynnwood who is a Marine sniper. Joe finds himself off-duty and he’s going with wife on a trip. He wants to go home, but she’s a PR executive who has a job opening a five star resort on this tropical island. He says, “.lright, I just wanna be with you, honey,” So they both go there and they start having a good time. That’s when the terrorist come and they take over this resort. This happens late one night during a dinner party, and during the process they take his wife hostage as well as several other people, including the billionaire that owns the place.IGN: Then you spring into action?
DiBiase: Yeah, that’s when my character uses his military expertise and his survival skills and heads in on his own and takes matters into his own hands. It’s really cool. It’s very synchronized. In the first Marine, it was just his wife.
Son of ‘Million Dollar Man’ making his own name as part of Legacy in WWE.
Success has come quickly for Mississippi native Ted DiBiase, a third generation World Wrestling Entertainment superstar who is highlighted each week on the USA Network’s “Monday Night Raw” DiBiase, 26, is the son of former WWE great “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase and the grandson of “Iron” Mike DiBiase. He is also part of The Legacy team with Cody Rhodes (son of the “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes) and WWE Champion Randy Orton (son of “Cowboy” Bob Orton). DiBiase, as a member of Legacy, will be part of the main event when WWE invades the Peoria Civic Center on Saturday facing “The World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry and “The Game” Triple H.
Cue had a chance to catch up with DiBiase to talk about the impact Orton, his father and the late Andre the Giant have had on him.
You’ve only been wrestling for three years now, but you’re on “Raw” every Monday night as a member of The Legacy. What has the early success meant to you?
It means everything. It really has given me a sense of pride and accomplishment on the fact that I set out to achieve goals early on in my career. Being a third generational superstar, there are expectations. You are under the microscope, to say the least. I wanted to set myself apart and come in and have people think that I didn’t ride my dad’s coattails. This is something I’ve done on my own. With each new year, there will be hopefully more success.
Mark “Swoggle” Henry & Hornswoggle vs. Legacy (Ted Dibiase & Cody Rhodes)
Cole and Lawler said DX might be returning at Summerslam to face Legacy. Trivia note: Cody Rhodes is actually the same height as Henry, if not with an inch advantage. Henry flung Cody out of the ring, then gave DiBiase a World’s Strongest Slam in the corner. Horny then went up top and wanted the Tadpole splash, but DiBiase moved. Henry was stunned, then Cody kicked him off the apron. DiBiase stalked Horny, then grappled him from behind for the Dream Street in center ring for the pin and the win.
Post-match, Henry stood over his fallen comrade and nearly performed CPR on Hornswoggle as Legacy walked out of the ring satisfied with the match victory. They replayed the high points of the match before cutting to a shot of DiBiase holding a mic on stage. DiBiase said it appears they have the re-formation of DX. As if that’s supposed to scare them, he said. DiBiase answered Hunter’s question from last week: “We Are Ready.” He said they’ll make Michaels’s comeback the shortest ever. Cody said if you’re not down with that, they have two words: Too Bad. Right up there with “wimp” from MVP earlier tonight.
