THE LEGACY: CODY RHODES & TED DiBIASE
This Week: 13

Tensions are running high between these two headed into the Rumble, and it’s understandable considering either could be “The One” after Sunday.

DX (SHAWN MICHAELS & TRIPLE H) vs. LEGACY (CODY RHODES & TED DIBIASE)
Cole plugged DX vs. Punk and Gallows for the tag titles on Smackdown this week. DX and Legacy traded control, then Cole suddenly snapped to attention shouting there’s breaking news on the guest hosts on the other side of the break. They returned from break with Michaels looking for a hot tag and receiving it. He teed off on Cody Rhodes as Lawler asked Cole about the breaking news, which is that James Roday is not here and they “don’t know exactly why.” Back to the action where Michaels dropped Cody in the corner and teased a top rope elbow, but DiBiase ran interference. Michaels simply adjusted his flight plan and splashed both men on the outside in front of the guardrail. Michaels was slow to re-enter the ring, which allowed Cody to snap off a neckbreaker to cut off Michaels’s offensive advantage.

THE LEGACY: CODY RHODES & TED DiBIASE
This Week: 12
Last Week: 12
One week after helping Randy Orton become No. 1 contender, The Legacy paid for their actions and after the match, seemed quite unhappy with one another.

Screen captures now up. Sorry for the long wait!

Kofi Kingston came out at the top of the hour as Cole reset the show live from Univ. of Tennessee. Cena and Kofi slapped hands before Legacy’s music hit to bring out Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase. Cole cited recent bickering between Legacy, but a video showed them on the same page helping Orton win the #1 contender deal last week. Uh-oh, Lawler with a huge slip, calling Randy Orton “Randy Savage” during a voice-over on the replay from last week.

JOHN CENA & KOFI KINGSTON vs. LEGACY (CODY RHODES & TED DIBIASE)
Legacy isolated Cena early in the match and cut off a brief comeback, but Kofi eventually got the hot tag at 2:45 to do his routine on DiBiase. Kofi hit the Boom Drop, then teased Trouble in Paradise, but DiBiase moved away to a neutral corner. Cody then caused confusion in the corner allowing DiBiase to land a smashing clothesline to cut off Kofi. Legacy took control going to break. Back to the tag match where Cena urged Kofi to make the tag while Legacy kept working Kofi over. DiBiase missed with a clothesline on Kofi in the corner, then Cody just ran across the ring and knocked Cena off the ring apron to keep Legacy on the advantage. Kofi back-dropped out of a suplex attempt, then Cena begged for a tag and took the tag with the crowd exploding for Cena’s full comeback routine. Cena called for the Five Knuckle Shuffle on Cody and delivered center ring. Cody then countered the FU with a Russian Legsweep for a two count. Cena then blocked a bulldog and hit the FU on Cody, but DiBiase broke up the pin. The action broke down and Kofi took a blind-tag with Kofi coming off the top with a high cross-body splash on Cody after DiBiase ducked. Kofi made the cover on Cody for the pin and the win.
Post-match, Cole over-suggested Kofi is really hot right now going into the Rumble. Did he not pay attention to the video before the match of Orton pinning Kofi last week? Kofi and Cena celebrated at the top of the ramp after some replays, while back in the ring, Cody shook off DiBiase’s help and left him in the ring. Cody sold not being pleased with DiBiase setting him up for the fall.

WINNERS:
Cena & Kofi at 10:55. Good formula TV tag match with high energy and some good work from Legacy extending the iso on Kofi and the teased finishes before Kofi won the match. More tension between Cody and Ted will probably be played up, yet again, in the weeks to come. Overall, it was good to see Kofi get a win and Legacy standing alone without Orton.

Toronto Sun : DiBiase in on action even if it hurts

Sore ribs were a painful reminder for Ted DiBiase Jr. of the rigours of starring in an action movie. But he recently sat in awe watching the direct-to-DVD The Marine II.

It was very surreal,” he said. “We just built a house and got the big-screen TV put in, with surround sound. And the first movie we watched was mine, in Blu-Ray. I had a couple of buddies over. It was just so weird.

It was no surprise that DiBiase, a key cog in WWE’s Legacy faction, would turn up in an action movie.

I was always a big action guy. What kid doesn’t want to be an action hero? I liked inspirational movies … Braveheart, Gladiator. And I like Bruce Willis. I was a huge fan of Die Hard.

DiBiase took a beating during the filming.

I beat the hell out of my body in the movie,” he said. “I did all the fight scenes. And the Muay Tai fighters were just bringing it. On the first take, I got kicked in the ribs and separated the cartilage between two of my ribs. I battled that through the whole movie.

In the wrestling ring, DiBiase is also a rising star, with WWE teasing a feud with Legacy stablemate Randy Orton.
Randy and I always want to test our skills against the best. I want to be WWE champion just as bad as he does. I want to make an impact and make a name for myself.

Was DiBiase destined for wrestling greatness?
I didn’t know I’d be good at it,” he said. “It’s something I wanted to do more than anything else. When I finally got the blessing from my pops, it was on from there. I don’t think I’ve ever worked harder at anything than this.”
It’s more than providing for family or to be famous. I couldn’t care less. It was more about carrying on the family’s name, the legacy … to do well.

Mission accomplished.

Movie FanFare : Ted DiBiase & The Marine 2

Just in from Toronto and contemplating a workout and rest before a DVD signing of his movie The Marine 2 at a local music/movie shop, Ted DiBiase feels a cold may be coming on.

For this reason, he supplements the generously portioned cheeseburger he orders in a Philadelphia hotel restaurant with a big bowl of chicken noodle soup.

A few sips in, he decides it’s just what the doctor ordered. Automatic penicillin for a guy with a tough schedule and a plan to head out of Philly in a day, destined for Minnesota, where freezing weather will greet him for another DVD signing and an appearance grappling in Minneapolis on the nationally televised wrestling program Monday Night Raw.

DiBiase, 27, is a third-generation wrestler, so he’s aware of the grind all too well. “This schedule is actually more grueling,” says DiBiase between spoonfuls of the hearty elixir. “When I’m home I get to the gym every day for at least an hour. I used to train longer, but you don’t want to overdo it. If you do one hour of constant training, put the headphones on and get into the zone, that should be it.”

DiBiase is actually a Jr., the son of Ted DiBiase, the popular grappler nicknamed “The Million Dollar Man” during his ‘80s-‘90s stint with WWE, and grandson of Helen Hilde and “Iron” Mike DiBiase.

The topsy-turvy schedule to promote his first movie—an in-name-only sequel to fellow WWE star John Cena’s 2008 theatrical actioner—has also taken him to Chicago, and there are many other cities on the horizon. But it’s something DiBiase is totally into. You can tell by the enthusiasm in his voice that he digs the attention, as well as the movie business.

“The great thing about the movie is that it didn’t cost a lot of money, maybe $6 or $7 million,” says DiBiase. “The first one was allotted about $20 million, so they had a lot of room for explosions. This one, they did a really good job. The director (Roel Reine, who also helmed Steven Seagal’s Pistolwhipped) was amazing. He had this crane and they had these above (aerial) shots without a helicopter. He would swoop down and made it look like an expensive motion picture.

“I think we did a good job of telling a story and bringing it up to a climax instead of just simply action, action, action. There was character development in the beginning, and when the terrorists come in, it’s all action.”
